A time my world changed poem

I guess this is growing up

"You're growing up so fast" she said.
We never thought this day would come
even though knew it had to.

They packed out and headed out
to Winona and Rochester
leaving me
alone
in a half empty nest.

It was a new beginning for all of us
new school, new jobs
I acted undamaged, I always wore a
fake smile on my face
inside I was ripped to shreds like a
pillow after a pillow fight.

I knew my brothers would return
but I hated to watch them go
and to hear everyone's goodbyes.

They returned in the end but
they will depart again
that will be all right though becasue
everyone has to leave home.

Play

The Party

[the setting of the play is at a party or club]

JOHN
[pointing to a girl]
Dude look at that girl she’s totally checking you out!

ALEX
Oh no way man. She’s totally looking at you.

JOHN
Just go up to her and be like “Yo, giant polar bear” and when she’s like “huh” play it smooth and say “it’s an icebreaker.”

ALEX
Ummmmmmmmmmm no

JOHN
Awwww you wuss she’s hot fo sho.

ALEX
Then you ask her out. It’s more likely she’ll say yes to you than to me.

JOHN
Nahh. What if she’s like my cousin or something. I don’t want that to happen again.

ALEX
Ha I remember that when you made out with Nikki Jones for like eight hours and found out she was like related to you. Wow man that sucks. [laughs]

JOHN
Well she’s only like my second cousin and man you’ve seen her. She’s so freaking hot.

ALEX
Dude.

JOHN
Yeah?

ALEX
That’s sick. In the bad way.

JOHN
Just go up to her, now.
[JOHN shoves ALEX in the direction of the girl]

ALEX
Fine I’ll go talk to her. What’s-
[turns to see that JOHN was gone]

ALEX
Wow thanks John.
[walks toward girl]

ALEX
Umm hi.

GIRL 1
Hey.

ALEX
So uhhh what’s your name?

GIRL 1
It’s Becky. So who’s that guy you were talking to before?

ALEX
Uhh that’s my friend, John.

BECKY
Oh, he’s really freaking hot.

ALEX
Umm yeah sure.

BECKY
Would you like to introduce me?

ALEX
Sure, why not.

BECKY
Ohh yay! Thanks. Seriously how did he get so cute?!

ALEX
Umm I wouldn’t really know…
[leads BECKY over to JOHN]

ALEX
[to JOHN]
Hey John, this is Becky, I don’t think you guys are related.

JOHN
[to BECKY]
Ohh well hellllo Becky. I’m John.

BECKY
Heyy John, you know you’re like really hot right?

JOHN
Oh I know right! Nahh I’m just joking, I think you’re way sexier!

BECKY
[giggles]
Haha ohh you’re so funny!

[ALEX rolls his eyes and walks over to a near by couch and sits down.]

ALEX
[to himself]
Well, this is rather suckish.

GIRL 2
[GIRL 2 is sitting next to ALEX]

What’s so suckish?

ALEX
Huh? Oh nothing. It’s just every time I’m with my friend John I go unnoticed.

GIRL 2
Oh my God! Tell me about it! It’s the same way with my best friend Becky! She’s kinda a skank though I don’t really know why I consider her my best friend…but what I’m saying is I know how you feel.

ALEX
That’s weird.

GIRL 2
What’s weird?

ALEX
That people don’t notice you.

GIRL 2
How is that weird?


ALEX
I don’t know. I mean you’re like really pretty, you seem like someone that could get anyone they wanted, you know?

GIRL 2
Well I certainly don’t see it, but thanks.

ALEX
You’re welcome. What’s your name by the way?

GIRL 2
It’s Mia.

ALEX
Oh I’m Alex. Mia is a whole lot better than Becky.

MIA
[smile]

ALEX
Ha sure :)
